Time To Start Lining The Pond
With the sidewalks built, the next step is to finish the pond. In order to do this, we need to place two inches of foam sheets onto the floor, to act as an insulation layer to prevent the concrete floor from freezing and breaking.
With that complete, the next step is to put a waterproof membrane over the insulation, and along the sidewalks, making what amounts to maybe the areas biggest (and shallowest) vinyl lined pool. A lot of clubs who have done the warehouse conversion have simply used some large poly sheets to line the pond. But almost all of those have had issues with water leaking out when shutting down the ice at the end of the year. So, we have taken an approach to go slightly higher end to prevent any long-term mold issues. We are going to use an EPDM membrane, which is the same material that they use on the top of buildings with flat roof. And since none of us are roofers, the plan is to spread out the EPDM layers, and then hire a roofer to come in and glue all the corners and seems together. The hope is that we will ultimately be 100% leak free
